TUFT ANCESTORS

Our George Tufft below was born in Elkhart Indiana.

FAMILY STORY IS THAT GEORGE'S PARENTS WERE KILLED ON A WAGON TRAIN
AND GEORGE WAS RAISED BY THE INDIANS. I BELIEVE THAT MAYBE GEORGES
PARENTS AND BROTHER AND SISTERS MAY HAVE BEEN KILLED BY THE INDIANS.
THIS IS PERHAPS WHY I CAN NOT FIND JOHN TUFFS / TUFTS ON THE 1850 CENSUS
THIS COULD BE WHY GEORGE TUFTS IS LIVING IN THE HOUSEHOLD OF A NEIGHBOR GEORGE'S UNCLE SHOWS UP FROM OHIO TO MICHIGAN IN THE SAME AREA AS GEORGE

GEORGE'S UNCLE WILLIAM JAMES WHO MARRIED PHYLINDA OLMSTEAD RECEIVED LAND
FROM BOUNTIES IN MICHIGAN

About William Tuffs

The chapter, founded in 1923, was named for William Tuffs, a Revolutionary War soldier
who was born near Boston, Massachusetts, on June 11, 1750, and who was buried
in the Bonneyville Cemetery in Elkhart County, Indiana, on September 7, 1847. In his later years,
Tuffs loved to tell tales of his exploits during the American Revolution, especially of dressing
 as a
Mohawk Indian and helping destroy a cargo of tea on a ship in Boston Harbor during the
Boston Tea Party. Tuffs served in some of the major battles of the American Revolution and was held
prisoner in Dartmoor Prison in England. John and William Tuffts / Tuffs were in Elkhart Indiana at the same time in 1840.
